Music

Music has been an important part of my life since I was very young. I started playing drums at age 9, and I’ve never stopped. I play a wide breadth of styles, from innovative improvised jazz, to funk, rock, big band, and pit work for theatrical productions. Below you’ll find more details about my current projects, samples to check out, and how to purchase some tunes.

Alumni Jazz Band

ed_sanderstheater

Formed by a group of Harvard alum and supported with rehearsal space by the Office for the Arts at Harvard, this is classic big band jazz. Even though I’m not a Harvard alum, they asked me to sit in three years ago, and now I just won’t leave. Check out the videos, shot at Harvard’s Sanders Theater on May 26, 2012.

The Bokhour Brothers

My brothers Dave and Ray and I have been playing music together for nearly four decades. The band is based in the Northeastern US. “The Bokhour Brothers, Vol 1” is a retrospective of instrumental jazz-rock we produced between 1977 and 1986, and is the first of what we hope will be many collections of past material and new projects. We invite you to join our Facebook fan page, or click on the image to be taken to our iTunes page.

Ray has written music for over 65 productions in the last 25 years. He spent 10 years as Resident Composer for Albany’s Actors Shakespeare Company (Romeo and Juliet, Two Gents, Julius Caesar, Much Ado, As You Like It, Twelfth Night, Don Juan, etc.). He has also composed for the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Company’s productions of Winter’s Tale, Much Ado, and Twelfth Night. This production of Twelfth Night was televised on PBS and and was the subject of the documentary “Shakespeare on the Hudson.” Off-Broadway, he designed music for The New Bozena at the Cherry Lane Theatre. His Shakespeare songs have been featured by the The Shakespeare Society in Manhattan. Ray’s non-theatre compositions have been recorded by the London Symphony and Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestras for MMC Records. His original quintet, Sketches of an Actress, was performed by The Thüringer Salonquintett at Carnegie Recital Hall in 1999. In addition to his acting work, Ray’s work has been performed by the London Symphony and Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestras which were recorded for MMC Records.

As a freelance musician performing in a huge variety of bands throughout the world, Dave has had the opportunity to work with artists such as Jimmy Page, Alana Davis, The Uptown Horns and The Reputations. He has recorded albums, soundtracks and commercials for producers including Dr. Freeze, Genya Ravan, Asaf Shor and John Wonderling. With the Elite Showband, Dave has had the opportunity to see the world from the tip of South America to the ends of the Asian continent. The Elite Showband is based in Pittsburgh, PA.

Free Passage

Based in Concord, Chelmsford, Carlisle, and Bedford, MA, this quartet plays deeply improvisational jazz, that interweaves the themes and harmonies of the standard jazz repertoire. I’m joined by Steve Berke (guitar), Mark Caddell (bass), and David Wright (saxophones and flutes).
